However the platform is also used for a variety of management and research
cooperation activities. It provides many tools useful in the conduct of
meetings and the exchange of information. It incorporates full video
conferencing facilities with interactive whiteboard capacity all using IP on
the Internet. A very nice feature is the recording of all information for
subsequent review and maintenance of records. We use it for the complete
administrative operation of TWCERT/CC where we have people located throughout
The platform is also used by the "K12 Digital School" in all Taiwan
Counties. In addition it is used by the AJET project for collaboration
with teachers and students internationally. Internationally it is used by
Professors from a range of countries to facilitate collaboration on research
projects.
This facility is made available for intellectually adventuresome people to
facilitate collaboration with the research and development team. You need
an account and password to explore the platform. There would be no
administrative overhead for you as the program resides on a server at the
University. A small client resides on the user computer. The
limitation is that it is Windows based. Because it is primarily a
Learning Management System there are the necessary account and password access
requirements.
The first requirement is that you are using the Windows Operating System and IE
Browser. To enable full functionality you need to download and install, a small [free] client to your machine. Please
go to:
<http://www.homemeeting.com/en_US/download.asp>
and install JoinNet ver 4.1 [or later].
then go to:
<http://ykn.k12.edu.tw>
and log into the system.
The first time you log into the platform it will ask you to complete
registration which includes selection of your menu language. Chinese and
English are the options at present.
The process now requires you to log in again and you will be given access to
the platform tools. Please give it a try.
For the synchronous interactive meeting facility you need earphones and a
microphone. A web cam is a desirable extra. To join an open
interactive meeting, after login and selecting the relevant Course, you use the
Menu selections "Interactive" then "Online Chatroom".
Your JoinNet Client should automatically activate and you should be present in
the meeting online.
